INSERT premiered the track ‘Ascending’:
“‘Ascending’ is the EP’s dramatic and glacial opener; which sees Giek_1 merge countless layers of choral vocals over a new-age Eski beat.”
‘TWISTED TRANSCENDENCE’ premiered at Threshold Magazine on the 13th of October and can be checked on all platforms.
The video ‘Spiritual Ecology Trilogy part 1: Longing’ was part of the EP.

“The more we listen to it, the more we become detached and entranced in this TWISTED TRANSCENDENCE. The eerie vocals of giek_1 create an irreverent tapestry that inevitably recreates echoes from Eartheater’s phenomenal and seminal work IRISIRI, while the ambitious post-industrial and peppy production will certainly attract those who, such as myself, have become infatuated by the recent trend of deconstructed club that artists such as Arca, SOPHIE, Amnesia Scanner and Vessel helped create. The post-human touches that form the narrative for this work are likely to also resonate with those who have been following Holly Herndon’s journey into music at the border between human and machine.”

The unified self versus the fractured self
“Just promise me that you’ll hold on me tight. Cuz ur slipping away too hard and so am I.”
All I could do was surrender to the hedonistic but destructive lifestyle.
Hyper escapism.
It felt good… for a minute…
But I was drowning… Suffocating on my high…
The video reflects on a time before Giek was a unified self. In the past she was a substance abuser. She would go out and party every weekend. Wandering from one scene to the next, trying to find a glimpse of myself in others, often staying awake for days. Anything to distract her from her inner self. This took a serious toll on her health, both physically and mentally. At some point she knew she had to get out. Escape from this cycle of escapism. Because who knows where she could have ended up…
Suffocating on my High is part of my EP TWISTED TRANSCENDENCE and can be downloaded on Bandcamp and streamed on Spotify.
