“The EP, ‘ESCAPE’ (written in 2017-2018), tells the story of how my spiritual awakening lines up with the different stages in a romantic relationship. Both of these things can bring past trauma to the surface, and act as a mirror to the self. The only way to progress is to heal from these hurts and grow as a person.

‘ESCAPE’ is about escaping reality, not wanting to face the real world because of what it might reveal about oneself. Escaping from the conflict and struggle. Escaping the destruction. But perhaps this destruction is caused by all of this escapism.”

ESCAPE is produced by Frenquency
Videos in collaboration with Johan Nieuwenburg (Hardest Storm) and Maurice Cartigny and Het Shot.
Album art was made by Mary Ponomareva.

Concept, lyrics and videos by Giek_1.

Threshold Magazine: “Giek_1’s new album paints recollections of Eartheater’s more recent work, FKA Twigs and Chromatics with its many sound manipulations and layers. The voice plays a crucial role in creating the plurality of Giek_1 with its many materialisations in pure stereo delight. “

Yeah I Know it Sucks: “Welcome in a realm of XTC energy, a temple that offers protections from demons, one in which love seems to prevail and the thick electric heart beats pounce around like a pleasant kick in the butt.”

“This world is really like instantly stepping through the wardrobe and being let immediately somewhere in the glittery glam of a royal space filled with shiny ice sculptures that on their own would Magic up rainbows and sunflowers, things that normally wouldn’t make any sense, but in a shiny glassy zone in which a powerful mind rules with its enriched spiritual freedom it somehow certainly does. You will eventually forget the outside world and the so called ‘other’ reality.”

“Now there is no reason to get mashed up at a rave, no need to go to that next level that makes you unable to walk straight at a after party; you can just sit back, relax and escape within this zone that Giek_1 has cooked up!”

Couvre x Chefs: “As the confusing turmoil of 2020 coincides with an intensifying shift towards a new spiritual age worldwide, between people too, these two contrasting realities can touch each other. Relationships can be the ultimate, intimate confrontation with healing processes inside oneself, coming back via the other person. Escape is the story of such intimate confrontation, a learning process in the liminal tunnel moving in between the unhealed and the healed paradigm through love.”
