Hermetic Musical Performance
KYBALION the Musical is a grand mythological and musical journey moving from the beginning of time toward the emergence of a New World through an alchemical synthesis of Hermetic philosophy, mystical symbolism, artistic reincarnation research, and theatrical storytelling.
Combining theatrical composition, ritual performance, spoken word, experimental music, symbolism, humor, and visual art, the work unfolds through a shifting constellation of mystical figures, archetypal encounters, spiritual initiations, and symbolic transformations.
The musical consists of 11 original songs composed using fragments, concepts, and adapted quotations inspired by the modern Hermetic text The Kybalion, interwoven with themes of consciousness, manifestation, identity, memory, cosmic cycles, and spiritual awakening.
Rather than functioning as a traditional musical theatre production, KYBALION the Musical exists between ritual, conceptual performance art, mystical lecture, symbolic opera, and interdisciplinary artistic research.
Mysticism, Ritual, and Artistic Reincarnation Research
A central layer within the work connects to Stephanie Smit’s broader Reality Cult artistic reincarnation research practice exploring soul continuity, symbolic identity, mythology, and recurring archetypal patterns across time.
Several figures and symbolic dynamics within KYBALION the Musical emerged through Stephanie Smit’s ongoing soul lineage research, where historical personalities, emotional themes, artistic archetypes, and symbolic memories appear to echo throughout different lifetimes and cultural periods.
Rather than presenting reincarnation as fixed doctrine, the work approaches these recurring figures as living symbolic structures operating between mythology, spirituality, psychology, artistic memory, and collective imagination.
Through ritualized storytelling, theatrical embodiment, music, and symbolic language, the performance explores how identity may fragment, evolve, repeat, dissolve, and reassemble itself across time.
Music, Theatre, and Esoteric Storytelling
The performance combines orchestral passages, electronic textures, improvisation, poetic monologues, ritual symbolism, costume design, visual projections, and theatrical composition into an immersive symbolic landscape.
Mystical teachings, cosmic principles, altered states, spiritual longing, duality, manifestation, death, rebirth, and transcendence move throughout the work as recurring motifs. Humor and absurdity coexist alongside philosophical intensity, allowing the performance to remain emotionally open, self-aware, and experiential rather than dogmatic.
Adorned in self-made costumes and symbolic garments, Stephanie Smit moves between performer, narrator, oracle, archetype, and mythic guide — blurring the boundaries between artist, character, ritual facilitator, and symbolic embodiment.
Performances and Exhibitions
After an intense four-week creation process, KYBALION the Musical premiered at KAOS KIA / Slug Gallery in Leipzig in April 2022.
The work was later presented during RECLAIMING THE CHURCH within the atmosphere of a church setting, further deepening the ritual and symbolic dimensions of the performance. Expanded versions combining performance, painting, and installation elements were also presented at Death and Rebirth festival Amsterdam (2023), Narthex Festival France (2023), and Occulture Conference Berlin.
Across its different iterations, KYBALION the Musical continues to evolve as an interdisciplinary performance work moving between concert, ritual, symbolic theatre, mystical storytelling, and artistic research.
